Kentucky Prediction Markets: Best Sites & Legal Apps in 2026
Kentucky prediction markets, like Kalshi and Polymarket, let you trade on real-world outcomes. This includes buying and selling contracts on Wildcats and Cardinals games, Kentucky's open US Senate race, and Racing Louisville FC matches. It's easy enough to learn, and because prices are set by other traders rather than a bookmaker, you can move in and out of positions before an event actually ends. That flexibility goes well beyond anything the sportsbooks offer you in the state.

Are prediction markets legal in Kentucky?
Yes, but potential traders must meet eligibility requirements and use an exchange that is registered with the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). All of the exchanges in our guide are CFTC-approved.
Furthermore, Kentuckians should be aware that state lawmakers and officials are engaged in litigation challenging the legality of sports event contracts in the state. The actions involve several separate initiatives.
Kentucky enacted a 14.25% excise tax on prediction market operators’ transaction fees, with an unusually broad tax base that can include the full contract purchase amount, not just the operator’s fee.
In response, the CFTC has sued Kentucky in federal court to block the implementation of that law, which is scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1, 2027. A coalition of prediction market exchange operators has also sued the state in state court with the same objective.
Meanwhile, Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman has sued Kalshi and Polymarket in state court. That action alleges that their offering of sports event contracts violates Kentucky’s gambling laws.
Court decisions are pending in all of these disputes and could affect Kentuckians’ access to sports event contracts on the involved platforms. People in KY should watch for news related to the litigation to ensure that their activity is compliant.
KY prediction market apps reviewed
We’ve tested the prediction markets in Kentucky and narrowed the field down to five options that provide positive experiences for people in the state. Each of our recommendations delivers trading opportunities but excels in a way that the other four exchanges don’t perform as strongly in.
- Kalshi: Best for providing Kentuckians value on balances
- Polymarket: Best for KY traders looking to save on fees
- FanDuel Predicts: Best for providing responsible trading interventions in Kentucky
- OG Predictions: Best for offering rewards to KY users
- DKeX: Best for Kentuckians with online sports wagering experience
Kalshi
Best for providing Kentuckians value on balances
We have given Kalshi our top overall spot in Kentucky because it contains competitive fees and a robust selection of markets with deep volume, but what really separates Kalshi is that it’s the only exchange among these five options that pays users interest on cash balances in their accounts. The biggest detractor for the Kalshi experience is that Polymarket often boasts lower fees on some markets.
People in KY will also find that Kalshi offers the best chances to trade in markets related to Racing Louisville FC. Examples include whether Racing will qualify for the 2026 NWSL playoffs and contracts on individual matches.
Polymarket US
Best for KY traders looking to save on fees
Polymarket may fall short of Kalshi in terms of reliable market volume, but it regularly outperforms every other exchange on our list in terms of consistently providing the lowest fees on the greatest selection of markets. This can translate into substantial improvements in earnings over time with successful predictions.
Fans of the Kentucky Wildcats will discover a great selection of markets to suit their outlooks on Polymarket. Current examples include how many SEC conference games Kentucky will win during the 2026-27 college football season and whether the Wildcats will qualify for the 2027 NCAA D1 men’s basketball national championship tournament.
FanDuel
Best for providing responsible trading interventions in Kentucky
Flutter has integrated its expertise in providing customers with custom account limits of many types into its FanDuel Predicts exchange, using that expertise to help traders manage their activity with numerous resources. FanDuel Predicts is a market leader in that regard, but it might fall short of Kalshi and Polymarket for some people in KY because it does not offer sports event contracts in the state.
Despite that fact, Kentuckians can still search for markets with local relevance, like who will win the open US Senate seat representing the state in the November 2026 elections. Markets for the winners of all six of Kentucky’s US House of Representatives seats are also available.
OG Predictions
Best for offering rewards to KY users
OG Predictions is the only of the five exchanges listed on this page that offers a dedicated VIP program to traders in Kentucky, providing opportunities to earn rewards with transactions on the app/website. Users in KY might find a greater selection of markets at Kalshi and lower fees at Polymarket, though.
For people interested in Louisville Cardinals athletics, OG is definitely worth a look. The options in this regard on OG include how the Cardinals will finish in the 2026-27 ACC football standings and the potential seeding for Louisville in the 2027 NCAA D1 men’s basketball national championship tournament.
DraftKings
Best for Kentuckians with online sports wagering experience
If you’re familiar with DraftKings Sportsbook in Kentucky or DraftKings’ daily fantasy sports platform, you’ll have no trouble using the interface of the company’s proprietary exchange, DKeX. You won’t find sports event contracts on DKeX in KY, though, as DraftKings does not offer those markets in the state.
Even so, DKeX has plenty of contracts that Kentuckians may have unique interest in. These markets include Rotten Tomatoes scores for films starring Owensboro-native Johnny Depp and box office returns for movies starring Indian Hills-native Jennifer Lawrence.
How to trade prediction markets in Kentucky
Legal online sportsbooks have operated in KY since 2023, so people in the state have had plenty of opportunity to become accustomed to their processes. Prediction market trading is a distinct activity for Kentuckians, but going through the six-step process for trading feels and looks similar to a degree.
- Select an exchange: Prior to performing any other actions, verify that the exchange you’re evaluating is in good standing with the CFTC and operates in Kentucky. You should also take a few moments to confirm the fees and that the exchange offers the types of markets you’re interested in.
- Share your account details: CFTC regulations mandate that exchanges collect your contact and identify information, so ensure that you have appropriate government documents like a drivers license handy.
- Get your new trader bonus: Welcome bonuses are standard at KY prediction markets but users should verify first whether they need to use a promo code to get the benefits.
- Fund your account: You need to deposit funds to trade and Kentucky prediction markets facilitate these transactions with ACH payments and debit cards plus certain cryptocurrencies in some cases.
- Search the available markets: On the app or website type in the event that you are interested in and browse the related listings paying attention to the contract pricing and volume in the market.
- Claim your earnings: Should you make an accurate prediction, the exchange will give you a positive settlement. You can withdraw those funds as real money but pay attention to platform policies about withdrawal requests and understand that the speed of your request will depend on which payment method you elect.
Example: Trading Kentucky Wildcats football futures
Kalshi has, at the time of this writing, a market on which team will win the SEC conference championship for the 2026-27 college football season. In that market, contracts on the “yes” side for Kentucky are currently trading at $0.01, and contracts on the “no” side are currently trading at $0.99.
This market settles according to which team wins the 2026 conference championship game on Dec. 5, 2026. People who make correct predictions will get positive settlements of $1 per contract, and people who make incorrect predictions will get negative settlements of $0 per contract.
If you bought into the yes side of the market at the current price, and the Wildcats won that game, that would equate to a profit of $0.99 per contract for you ($1.00-$0.01=$0.99). However, it would not be mandatory for you to wait until after that game is played to potentially enjoy a profit.
Suppose that the Wildcats won their first two SEC games of the season. That could make people in the market on the “no” side eager to sell or motivate people who are not in the market to buy in. As a result, the price on the contracts you are holding would increase.
If the price were to increase to $0.21, for instance, you could sell and get a profit of $0.20 per contract. You might wait because that would be a sacrifice of $0.79 per contract in potential profit, but by selling at that point, you capitalize on the moment and eliminate your risk of Kentucky’s winning ways ending.
How fees work
Kentuckians interested in the McGarvey-Rodriguez race or Wildcats futures will find plenty of markets on KY prediction markets, but exchanges also charge fees that vary by platform and by contract price. Check each platform’s fee schedule before you trade, since the rules aren’t the same everywhere.
Fees are typically highest on contracts trading near the middle of the price range and taper off toward the extremes. A contract priced near $0.50 reflects the most uncertainty, so exchanges charge more to facilitate that trade; a contract priced near $0.10 or $0.90 reflects a market that has largely made up its mind, so the fee is smaller.
That structure matters more than it looks. Fees are typically assessed as a small percentage of the contract’s price rather than a flat percentage of your total spend, so the profit margin they eat into shifts depending on where you’re trading. A contract on Rep. Morgan McGarvey retaining his seat in Kentucky’s third district at $0.10 has far more room to run if you’re right than one at $0.60 — but a small fee still claims a larger share of that bigger potential profit.
Run your own numbers with DeFi Rate’s fee calculator before you trade, especially on lower-priced, longer-odds contracts where fees have the most room to cut into your upside.
Upcoming sports events to trade on in Kentucky
KY residents and visitors can enjoy professional soccer action plus high-profile collegiate sports throughout the year, making the state a great destination for fans. These events are perfect examples of the rapidly changing nature of contract trading, too.
As one example, suppose that the Cardinals men’s basketball team signed a highly rated recruit. That could make prices on contracts covering their futures for an upcoming season increase, which would be a great development for people holding those contracts as it could give them an opportunity to exit those positions with a profit.
KY prediction markets vs. sports betting
Many prediction markets in Kentucky afford people in the state the chance to trade contracts on the same events that licensed sportsbooks in Kentucky offer action on, but that’s the only real similarity between these activities. Five facets of prediction market trading demonstrate the vast difference.
- Cost: Costs for prediction market traders include market fees, while costs for sportsbook users include the “vig” (the sportsbook’s interest) built into the lines.
- Flexibility: KY sportsbook users may have options for limited early cash-outs, but comparatively Kentucky prediction market users enjoy greater freedom in selling off positions when they want.
- Pricing: Kentucky sportsbooks set lines according to their interests while contract prices reflect user demand on the exchanges.
- Regulation: The Kentucky Gaming Commission oversees sports wagering in the state while the CFTC has oversight of prediction market trading.
- Structure: Sports bets are against the house while prediction market trades are against the person who takes the position opposite yours in the market.
There is no greater difference between KY prediction markets and KY sports wagering than the influence that traders have on market availability and pricing. Sportsbooks wield much more of that control in comparison.
What markets can you trade on in Kentucky?
Most contracts available on KY prediction markets belong in at least one of six categories. The contracts may have global significance, national appeal, or be especially relevant for people in Kentucky.
- Cryptocurrency: Available contracts center on price targets for specific tokens at specific times, such as daily Bitcoin markets and annual Ethereum targets. Best exchange in the category: OG Predictions
- Culture: Contracts with local relevance in this genre are Academy Award nominations for Lexington native George Clooney and Spotify stream totals for Louisville native Bryson Tiller. Best exchange in the category: DKeX
- Economics: Federal Reserve interest rate decisions and stock price targets are some of the best examples of markets here. Best exchange in the category: FanDuel Predicts
- Politics: Markets delve deep into Kentucky elections and political news, including Kentucky’s impact on which party will control the US Congress after the November 2026 elections. Best exchange in the category: Polymarket
- Sports: Contracts involve awards, games, and futures for the Kentucky Wildcats, Louisville Cardinals, Racing Louisville FC, and more. Best exchange in the category: Kalshi
- Weather: Markets on rainfall in Louisville plus the temperature highs in other Kentucky cities comprise the offerings in this regard. Best exchange in the category: Polymarket
Kentucky-specific rules for prediction markets
The CFTC governs prediction market trading across the country, including in Kentucky, but there are stipulations that people in KY need to pay attention to. This is especially true as the state government is challenging the legality of sports event contract trading.
In terms of nationwide policies, CFTC regulations dictate that people must be at least 18 years old to trade prediction markets and no Kentucky statutes have established a different standard to date. Kentuckians should watch for potential guidance from the US IRS and the Kentucky Department of Revenue regarding prediction market earnings, too.
As a result, KY residents need to keep records of their activity and consult a tax professional in the state to ensure accurate payment and reporting. In the meantime, Kentuckians should watch for developments in court cases that could affect prediction market access.
How Kentucky works between products
The CFTC’s regulations for prediction market trading can be very detailed in some aspects but in others give exchanges a lot of freedom to establish their own practices and policies. Trader experiences can vary from one platform to another for that reason.
One of the strongest examples of this variance is the fact that DKeX and FanDuel Predicts have decided not to offer sports event contracts in Kentucky. As Flutter CEO Peter Jackson alluded to, these companies have the concern of needing to protect their gambling licenses in KY while Kalshi, OG Predictions, and Polymarket are free from that concern.
Kentucky traders may also find significant differences between exchanges in regard to settlement rules for contracts. Users should always check the specific rules of each market they are interested in to account for any such differences.
Prediction markets continue to evolve
Kentucky is one of the national “hot spots” for litigation involving prediction market exchanges because of its tax on their revenue and challenge to the legality of sports event contract trading. The numerous lawsuits that KY officials are involved in could have permanent and serious ramifications for the future of such trading in the state.
At the time of this writing, there are no court orders in place that limit the availability of prediction markets or sports event contracts thereupon in effect for Kentuckians. However, there are also no legal obstacles to authorities in Kentucky trying to affect those limits right now, either.
Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman is currently seeking such limits for sports event contracts in state court. A favorable decision in that action could cause platforms such as Kalshi, OG Predictions, and Polymarket to respond by curtailing their offerings.
However, those exchanges and the CFTC are also in court trying to block that lawsuit from moving forward and also nullify Kentucky’s tax on prediction market revenue. Favorable results in those cases could enable Kentuckians to trade with greater confidence about the long-term prospects of the activity.
There is also a non-Kentucky lawsuit that has now gone before the US Supreme Court, with New Jersey authorities petitioning the justices to review a decision favoring Kalshi. A ruling in that case would have national implications, including in KY.

Things to know before you trade in Kentucky
Kentuckians will get maximum enjoyment out of their prediction market trading if they keep a few things in mind.
- Contract availability and settlement rules are unique: Never assume that all exchanges offer the same contracts or that the settlement terms for markets are identical to those you’ve experienced in the past.
- Litigation is ongoing involving sports event contract access: Rulings from federal courts are expected, and they might alter offerings on KY exchanges significantly.
- Sports wagering and prediction market trading are different: They involve similar events, but that’s the extent of the commonalities. They are functionally and legally distinct activities.
