Pentagon UFO releases have not confirmed extraterrestrial life

The disclosure story has moved well beyond the Pentagon’s missed April 14 deadline. On May 8, the department launched the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE) and began publishing previously unreleased UAP records. Further batches followed on May 22, June 12, July 10 and August 7.

The fifth release added 41 files and videos, bringing the public collection to 162 files according to reporting published after the release. The records include unresolved military sightings, imagery and witness accounts. They do not amount to an official statement that extraterrestrial life or technology exists, so the alien-confirmation market remains unresolved and No remains favored.

Since the fifth release, senior administration officials and independent researchers have added context without meeting the market’s settlement standard. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the administration would likely make a major public presentation if it possessed stronger evidence. Separately, researchers reviewing all 112 PURSUE sensor videos found that missing or redacted technical data prevented them from conclusively determining whether the recorded objects displayed anomalous velocities. Neither development constituted an official confirmation of extraterrestrial life or technology.

The White House also registered aliens.gov and alien.gov in March 2026. The registrations were consistent with preparations for public file releases, but they were not evidence of an imminent confirmation.

Major events and how alien-confirmation odds moved

Listed latest first, the table tracks the Kalshi Yes price around the major public events in this disclosure cycle. Movement is shown from the last hourly price before the event’s UTC date to the final hourly price approximately 48 hours later; notable interim highs or lows are included. The timing is descriptive and does not prove that each event caused the full move.

DateMajor eventKalshi Yes movementWhat happened
Aug. 12, 2026A scientific preprint analyzed all 112 PURSUE sensor videos. The researchers found that redacted or missing range, camera and flight data prevented them from conclusively identifying anomalous velocities.6.2% → 6.2% (briefly 6.7%)No sustained move. The study found that the released videos cannot currently confirm extraordinary technology or extraterrestrial activity.
Aug. 11, 2026Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that if the administration knew more, Trump would likely give a primetime address and show the public the pictures and videos.6.3% → 6.3% (briefly 6.7%)A small temporary rise faded; Rubio’s remarks did not amount to a qualifying confirmation.
Aug. 7, 2026The Pentagon published its fifth PURSUE batch, adding 41 files and videos; reporting put the public collection at 162 files.6.7% → 7.0% (briefly 7.9%)A small increase, with no qualifying confirmation.
July 31, 2026ODNI issued preliminary guidance allowing current and former government personnel and contractors to provide UAP information to designated government channels despite prior NDAs.7.3% → 6.2% (fell as low as 5.8%)The guidance expanded internal disclosure channels but did not authorize general public disclosure or confirm extraterrestrial life.
July 10, 2026The Pentagon published its fourth PURSUE batch of UAP files.7.5% → 8.5% (briefly 8.6%)A modest short-term increase.
June 12, 2026The Pentagon published its third PURSUE batch of UAP files.13.2% → 12.4% (briefly 14.0%)Odds continued trending lower after another non-confirming release.
May 22, 2026The Pentagon published its second PURSUE batch of UAP encounter records.16.2% → 16.1% (briefly 16.6%)Minimal sustained response.
May 8, 2026The Pentagon launched the PURSUE database and published the first batch of UAP files.24.4% → 21.6% (briefly 28.3%)Initial excitement faded because the files did not confirm extraterrestrial life.

March 18, 2026The White House registration of aliens.gov and alien.gov became public, according to federal records.16.0% → 21.0% (briefly 22.0%)Yes rose during the 48-hour window, although timing alone does not establish causation.
Feb. 23, 2026Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that the Pentagon had begun the file review.20.0% → 24.0%Yes remained elevated, but there was still no confirmation of extraterrestrial life.
Feb. 20, 2026Trump directed the Pentagon and other agencies to identify and release government UFO and UAP files.19.0% → 22.0% (briefly 30.0%)The largest sustained news-driven jump in the period.
Feb. 14, 2026Barack Obama said aliens are “real,” then clarified that he meant life is statistically likely elsewhere and that he had seen no evidence of contact.17.0% → 18.0% (briefly 21.0%)A short-lived increase; the clarification did not meet the contract standard.
Feb. 9, 2026The “Disclosure Day” movie trailer aired during the Super Bowl.16.0% → 15.0%Little sustained reaction.

The pattern is notable: statements about transparency created short-lived spikes, while successive file releases without a qualifying confirmation were followed by lower Yes prices over time. The downward trend continued after the fifth release. From the end of August 7 through August 27, the aggregate Yes probability fell from 6.2% to 3.9%, a decline of 2.3 percentage points. Kalshi fell from 6.8% to 5.4%, while Polymarket declined from 5.5% to 3.8%. Rubio’s comments and the subsequent scientific analysis produced only limited, short-lived movement.

How to trade the alien-confirmation market

Kalshi, Polymarket and Polymarket US list binary Yes/No contracts on whether the U.S. will confirm extraterrestrial life or technology before 2027. A contract price between $0.01 and $0.99 can be read as the market’s implied probability. If Yes trades at $0.10, for example, the market is pricing roughly a 10% chance; a winning contract pays $1.00 before fees. Use our arbitrage and fee calculators to compare prices and estimate trading costs.

Traders can sell before the deadline rather than holding through settlement. That makes the market sensitive to speeches, document releases, congressional pressure and new footage. Those events can move the price even when they do not satisfy the resolution rules.

This is a narrowly defined bet. A qualifying person or federal agency must definitively state that extraterrestrial life or technology exists. Releasing unexplained footage, acknowledging unidentified objects or saying that life is statistically likely elsewhere is not enough.

How does the alien market resolve and pay out?

The core Yes trigger is aligned across Kalshi and Polymarket, although their detailed resolution and source provisions differ. The market resolves Yes if, by December 31, 2026, one of the following definitively states that extraterrestrial life or technology exists:

  • The president of the United States
  • Any qualifying member of the Cabinet
  • Any member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
  • Any U.S. federal agency

Kalshi additionally defines its qualifying Cabinet group to include the heads of the 15 Cabinet departments, plus the EPA administrator, White House chief of staff, director of national intelligence, OMB director, CIA director, U.S. trade representative, U.N. ambassador, chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, SBA administrator and director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy.

The keyword is “definitively.” Obama’s February comment did not qualify after he clarified that he had seen no evidence of extraterrestrial contact. Trump’s order to release files also did not qualify. None of the five PURSUE releases through August 7 contains the kind of official statement required for a Yes settlement.

The No side is therefore not a claim that life exists nowhere else in the universe. It is a bet that no qualifying U.S. official or federal agency will make the required definitive statement before January 1, 2027.

What has driven the alien odds?

Kalshi launched its contract on December 5, 2025, after Polymarket opened a comparable market in late November. Prices initially traded around 10% to 15%. The largest move came after Trump’s February 20 directive: Kalshi reached roughly 30% before giving back part of the gain.

Trump’s April 17 statement and the May 8 launch of PURSUE produced additional short-term volatility. But each subsequent release added reports and imagery without an official extraterrestrial confirmation. By August, Yes had fallen into the mid-single digits across the larger venues.

Differences between venue prices can reflect liquidity, order-book depth and trading activity. The dynamic board above shows the current cross-platform spread; thinly traded venues can temporarily display wider prices than Kalshi or Polymarket Global.

Will Trump release new UFO files before 2027? This was a different question from alien confirmation. The release threshold was much lower, and public releases began on May 8. Publishing UAP records did not require the government to state that aliens exist.

Will a new interstellar visitor be confirmed before 2027? Interstellar objects originate outside our solar system; their existence is already established. That market concerns the timing of another detection, not confirmation of extraterrestrial life.

What will Trump say? Kalshi’s recurring mention markets sometimes include UFO- or disclosure-related terms, offering shorter-duration exposure to the news cycle rather than the strict alien-confirmation standard.

How likely is an official alien disclosure?

The market continues to price official confirmation as a low-probability event. The Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office said in its 2024 historical review that it found no empirical evidence that a reported UAP represented extraterrestrial technology. AARO has acknowledged unresolved cases, but unresolved does not mean extraterrestrial.

Congressional pressure increased in 2026, including Luna’s request for 46 specified videos and later disclosure forums. The Pentagon subsequently began publishing records through PURSUE. The releases improved public access to government material, but they did not cross the contract’s much higher threshold for a definitive confirmation.

The White House domain registrations and continued public releases show that UAP transparency remains politically active. They should not be treated as proof of extraterrestrial life or as a guarantee that a qualifying statement is coming.

At any quoted Yes price, the potential return changes with the market. A Yes contract bought for 6¢ would cost $0.06 and pay $1.00 if it settles Yes, before fees; using a fixed payout ratio in editorial copy quickly becomes stale.

What happens next: additional PURSUE releases, official agency analysis of the published cases, confirmed congressional hearings or testimony and—most importantly for settlement—any definitive statement by a qualifying official or federal agency before the deadline.
