Connecticut Prediction MarketsSix prediction market apps are available in Connecticut

Connecticut prediction markets, like Kalshi and Polymarket, let you trade on real-world outcomes. This includes buying and selling contracts on UConn Huskies games, Gov. Ned Lamont's reelection bid, and Connecticut's five US House races. It's easy enough to learn, and because prices are set by other traders rather than a bookmaker, you can move in and out of positions before an event actually ends. That flexibility goes well beyond anything the sportsbooks offer you in the state.

Federally regulated prediction-market apps may be available to eligible Connecticut users, but CFTC oversight does not settle whether particular event contracts comply with state law.

However, residents need to pay attention to ongoing litigation challenging the legality of sports event contract trading in the state. CT Attorney General William Tong has sued Kalshi, alleging that activity on its platform violates Connecticut’s gambling laws.

On November 3, 2026, the Second Circuit denied Kalshi’s and Coinbase’s motions for injunctions pending appeal in their Connecticut cases, alongside Kalshi’s New York motion. The order denies temporary appellate protection; it does not dismiss the appeals or finally decide the merits. It also does not independently establish which contracts each app currently offers in Connecticut.

People in Connecticut can follow all of the updates on these disputes using DeFiRate’s Litigation Tracker.

CT prediction market apps reviewed

Our testing has probed every aspect of the prediction markets available in Connecticut, including ease-of-use, financial options, and variety of contracts. The review process has separated five exchanges that stand out from the crowd and identified the reasons why they are worth consideration for people in CT.

  • Kalshi: Best for deep volume on popular event contracts in Connecticut
  • Polymarket: Best for giving CT traders access to novel markets
  • FanDuel Predicts: Best for Connecticuters familiar with online gambling
  • OG Predictions: Best for people in Connecticut who prefer digital-first financial markets
  • DKeX: Best for CT users who value options in deposits and withdrawals

Kalshi

Best for deep volume on popular event contracts in Connecticut

Kalshi demands recognition as the best overall prediction market exchange in CT as it provides a stellar experience in all regards but especially in terms of consistently providing deep volume in markets connected to events that are prominent in the news or important for people in Connecticut. Our greatest criticism of Kalshi, though, is that its fees can be higher than you might find at Polymarket on certain contracts.

If you’re a fan of UConn athletics, Kalshi is a prominent destination for your trading. Available markets include win totals for the Huskies for the 2026-27 NCAA football season and individual game contracts for that campaign.

Polymarket US

Best for giving CT traders access to novel markets

A significant upside for Polymarket is its rapid expansion of new markets, particularly in terms of contracts for less widely known events. Kalshi may have more reliably high volume on popular events but Polymarket is a fantastic destination for Connecticut traders who are looking for opportunities to take advantage of niche markets.

Polymarket goes toe-to-toe with Kalshi in terms of sports event contracts for people in CT. Current highlights include whether the UConn women’s basketball team will grab a one seed in the 2027 NCAA D1 national championship tournament and where the Huskies men’s basketball team will finish in the Big East standings for the 2026-27 regular season.

FanDuel

Best for Connecticuters familiar with online gambling

Parent company Flutter knows that many people in CT have experience with its online casino, daily fantasy sports platform, and sportsbook, so it has designed FanDuel Predicts with a nearly-identical interface to make trading event contracts simpler. We believe that the greatest downside of FanDuel Predicts for people in CT could be the lack of sports event contract offerings.

Connecticuters have options with local relevance outside the realm of sports, such as in politics, for instance. FanDuel Predicts has several markets related to the races for CT’s five US House of Representatives seats and whether current Gov. Ned Lamont will win reelection in November 2026.

OG Predictions

Best for people in Connecticut who prefer digital-first financial markets

OG Predictions is a Crypto.com product so the benefits of that expertise with digital financial products are apparent in every aspect of the experience, such as an unmatched variety and volume of cryptocurrency price target contracts. Our most substantial criticisms of OG involve the market depth in other categories and the competitiveness of OG’s fee structures.

OG does come to compete in terms of offering Connecticut-relevant sports event contracts, though. Markets like whether UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma will retire after the 2026-27 season and if that team will win the Big East conference tournament in 2027 are just a couple of examples.

DraftKings

Best for CT users who value options in deposits and withdrawals

DraftKings has devoted a lot of resources to building out DKeX as its proprietary exchange including expanding its extensive network of payment processors to the platform. You can’t use your deposited funds to trade sports event contracts in CT, though, which may be an important drawback for people in the state.

If you follow Connecticut celebrities, though, you’ll find markets to your liking on DKeX. Options include Spotify streams for Bridgeport-native John Mayer and Rotten Tomatoes scores for films starring Fairfield-native Meg Ryan.

How to trade prediction markets in Connecticut

Connecticut expanded its framework for legal gambling to include online gaming in 2021, which means that people in the state have had years to become familiar with the process of maintaining an account for those apps and websites. Getting started with prediction market trading in CT bears several resemblances to its simple six-step process.

  1. Select an exchange: Look for proof that the platform has registered with the CFTC and accepts trades from people in CT. Verify that the exchange offers the markets that you want to trade in and compare its fees.
  2. Share your account details: You can’t trade on a CFTC-approved exchange without providing your contact information and verifying your identity. In most cases, you’ll be able to establish your identity using government-issued documents like a driver’s license.
  3. Get your new trader bonus: Don’t miss out on the new user offers that most Connecticut prediction markets offer. Check whether the exchange requires the use of a promo code to obtain the bonus.
  4. Fund your account: You can’t trade without funds to buy into markets, and you need to establish a payment source as another form of identity verification. ACH payments and debit cards are widely accepted, but some exchanges will also let you trade with particular cryptocurrencies.
  5. Search the available markets: Locate the search function and simply type in what you’re interested in. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, check another exchange.
  6. Claim your earnings: If you get a positive settlement from an accurate prediction or selling off your holdings, those funds are yours to withdraw as real money if you like. Pay attention to platform policies for withdrawal requests, especially differences in how long requests may take to process depending on the selection of various payment methods.

Example: Trading Connecticut Huskies women’s basketball futures

Currently, Kalshi offers a market on whether any NCAA D1 women’s basketball team will post an undefeated regular season for the 2026-27 campaign. Contracts on UConn in that market are priced at $0.21 on the “yes” side of that market and $0.88 on the “no” side.

People in CT can buy into either side or both. If you choose to do so, another user takes the opposite side of the market against you.

Contracts on the yes side settle positively if the Huskies finish their 2026-27 regular-season schedule without losing a game. Contracts on the no side settle positively if UConn finishes its 2026-27 regular-season schedule with at least one loss.

The amount on either side for positive settlements is $1. The amount on either side for negative settlements is $0.

That means if you bought into the “yes” side at the current price and the Huskies went undefeated, you would get a profit of $0.79 per contract, as $1.00-$0.21 is $0.79. Conversely, if you bought into the “no” side at the current price and UConn dropped at least one game, you would profit $0.12 per contract because $1.00-$0.88 is $0.12.

People in this market in CT wouldn’t have to wait until the regular season ends to sell off their positions in part or in whole, though. They could choose to do that well before the season ends if they wish, and there could be good reason to do so depending on the development of events.

As a hypothetical, imagine that the Huskies won their first five games of the season, making people more interested in this market. The price on the contract would escalate as a result of that increased interest.

Should the contract price on the yes side elevate to $0.41, for instance, people who bought yes contracts at $0.21 could sell and get a profit of $0.20 per contract. They would be giving up $0.59 per contract in potential profit compared to waiting it out, but they also greatly reduce their risk of not making any profit whatsoever on their position by enduring the long season.

How fees work

Connecticut prediction markets don’t have an interest in the settlement of users’ contracts, so fees are how they make money. When you make an accurate prConnecticut prediction markets don’t have an interest in the settlement of users’ contracts, so fees are how they make money. When you make an accurate prediction, your settlement money doesn’t come from the platform; it comes from the person who took the other side of the contract against you.

Fees vary by platform and by contract price. Check each platform’s fee schedule before you trade, since the rules aren’t the same everywhere.

Fees are typically highest on contracts trading near the middle of the price range and taper off toward the extremes. A contract priced near $0.50 reflects the most uncertainty, so exchanges charge more to facilitate that trade; a contract priced near $0.10 or $0.90 reflects a market that has largely made up its mind, so the fee is smaller.

That structure matters more than it looks. Fees are typically assessed as a small percentage of the contract’s price rather than a flat percentage of your total spend, so the profit margin they eat into shifts depending on where you’re trading. A contract on Tong’s reelection at $0.10 has far more room to run if you’re right than one at $0.60 — but a small fee still claims a larger share of that bigger potential profit.

Run your own numbers with DeFi Rate’s fee calculator before you trade, especially on lower-priced, longer-odds contracts where fees have the most room to cut into your upside.

Upcoming sports events to trade on in Connecticut

There are few greater hotbeds for collegiate sports than CT, especially in regard to men’s and women’s basketball due to the outstanding legacy the Huskies carry. These sports provide a stellar example of how the ups and downs of real-world events have drastic and immediate impacts on related contract markets.

People in CT who pay attention to headlines and act quickly can capitalize on opportune moments. For instance, if the Butler and Creighton men’s basketball teams suffer significant injuries, that could make prices rise on contracts related to the Huskies’ fates in that sport, and provide chances for people already in those markets to turn a quick profit.

CT prediction markets vs. sports betting

Because people in Connecticut have had over five years to enjoy online sportsbooks, they may mistakenly confuse sports event contract trading with traditional sports wagering. There are five important differences between these activities.

  • Cost: Sportsbooks add “vig” into their lines while prediction markets extract fees from users.
  • Flexibility: CT sportsbooks tend to restrict early cash-out options for bets in comparison to the opportunities that prediction market users get to sell their positions.
  • Pricing: Bookmakers set the lines on sportsbooks while traders establish contract prices with demand.
  • Regulation: Gambling is overseen by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (CDCP) while the US CFTC oversees prediction markets.
  • Structure: The book is your adversary in traditional sports bets, while other traders are your adversary in event contracts.

Among these five points of differentiation, the most substantial for people in CT is the amount of influence that users have on the availability and pricing of event contracts.

What markets can you trade on in Connecticut?

The evolution of CT prediction markets has produced six categories that most contracts fall into. These markets can have relevance on a global, local, and national scale.

  • Cryptocurrency: CT exchanges provide daily chances to trade on Bitcoin price targets, annual Ethereum highs, and more. Our pick for the best platform in this category: OG Predictions
  • Culture: Connecticuters can peruse offerings such as Greenwich-native Glenn Close will get nominated for Academy Awards and annual stream totals for New Haven-native Michael Bolton. Our pick for the best platform in this category: FanDuel Predicts
  • Economics: People in Connecticut who follow jobs reports or Gross Domestic Product statistics will find relevant markets on exchanges in the state. Our pick for the best platform in this category: DKeX
  • Politics: Examples of markets with local implications include the November 2026 race for Connecticut’s lieutenant governor and the CT Secretary of State election. Our pick for the best platform in this category: Polymarket For the complete national race map and live odds, see our 2026 midterms page.
  • Sports: Markets delve into UConn Huskies awards, games, and futures across numerous sports, but particularly basketball for men and women plus football. Our pick for the best platform in this category: Kalshi
  • Weather: Trading options here involve rainfall in Hartford and the movement of temperatures in New Haven as just a couple of examples. Our pick for the best platform in this category: Kalshi

Connecticut-specific rules for prediction markets

People in CT need to heed nationwide regulations that the CFTC imposes on prediction market trading, like age minimums and bans on insider trading. There are additional concerns for people in Connecticut because of the state’s challenge of sports event contract trading, though.

On November 3, 2026, the Second Circuit denied Kalshi’s and Coinbase’s requests for injunctions pending appeal in Connecticut. Those denials leave the companies without the temporary appellate protection they sought; they are not final merits rulings or proof of current in-app availability. Check each platform’s current state and contract eligibility before trading.

CFTC rules have established a minimum age of 18 to trade event contracts, and Connecticut authorities are not challenging that standard. Neither the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services nor the US IRS has released specific guidance for earnings on prediction markets so far.

Connecticuters should assume that their earnings are taxable in that absence. The best course of action is keeping records of trading and consulting a tax professional in the state

How Connecticut works between products

The CFTC’s rules are intentionally vague in some regards to allow each exchange operator to determine policies that work best for its business and users. Two primary examples of the facets in which platforms set their own policies are market availability and settlement rules.

In CT, DKeX and FanDuel Predicts have foregone offering sports event contracts. Flutter CEO Peter Jackson pointed to the reason for these decisions as the desire to preserve the good standing of their gambling licenses in places like CT.

Exchanges use different sources as final authorities to settle markets. For example, some exchanges use statistics provided by third parties to resolve sports contracts while others rely on sport governing bodies directly to provide confirmation.

Prediction markets continue to evolve

User demand has significant influence on Connecticut prediction markets, but litigation involving event contract trading in CT is another factor shaping the present and future of the activity. There are several cases involving Connecticut officials, or that could have ramifications in the state.

At the time of this writing, CT Attorney General William Tong is leading a lawsuit against Kalshi challenging the legality of trading sports event contracts on that exchange in Connecticut. That case, while originally filed in the Connecticut Superior Court, has been removed to the US District Court for the District of Connecticut.

Tong is also among the defendants in a lawsuit that Kalshi filed in December 2025 in response to the CDCP demanding that it stop offering sports event contracts in the state. The US District Court for the District of Connecticut denied Kalshi’s request for a preliminary injunction barring enforcement of that order, but Kalshi has appealed that decision to the US Second Circuit Court of Appeals. On November 3, 2026, the Second Circuit denied injunctions pending appeal in Kalshi’s Connecticut case, No. 26-2239, Coinbase’s Connecticut case, No. 26-2297, and Kalshi’s New York case, No. 26-1835, considered in tandem. The appeals remain pending; the order is not a final merits ruling.

The CFTC also sued Tong in April 2026. A ruling on the CFTC’s request for an injunction against Tong and other officials is pending right now.

Finally, New Jersey authorities have now petitioned the US Supreme Court to review the US Third Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision upholding an injunction against them. A ruling by that court would have implications across the country, including in CT.

  • Each platform sets its own policies in several areas: You will find unique contract offerings and settlement rules on each platform in addition to other aspects of the exchange
  • Lawsuits are ongoing involving access in Connecticut: Decisions by federal courts in multiple disputes between the CFTC/exchanges and CT officials could alter the experience of trading in the state

FAQ

Are prediction markets legal in Connecticut?

Our #1 ranked pick is Kalshi because of its deep market volume. Other options in CT are DKeX, FanDuel Predicts, OG Predictions, and Polymarket.

Can I trade contracts on UConn basketball in Connecticut?

Yes, on the men’s and women’s teams. CT exchanges that offer these markets are Kalshi, OG Predictions, and Polymarket.

What is the legal age for prediction markets in Connecticut?

CFTC rules maintain a minimum age of 18, so that is usually the standard.

Do all platforms offer the same sports contracts in Connecticut?

No. Each exchange determines its own market offerings in all categories, including sports.

Yes. CFTC rules allow for these markets, and Connecticut is not challenging that type of trading at this time.
