Explanation

How to read NFL game markets

Moneyline: who wins

The simplest market asks who wins the game, overtime included. A contract on the winner pays $1 and one on the loser pays nothing: Kalshi settled this game on the Falcons. Before and during the game, each team’s price is the market’s chance of that result.

Spread and total ladders

Instead of one spread line, Kalshi lists a ladder of contracts: “Falcons win by more than 1.5,” “by more than 2.5,” and so on, each with its own price. The price falls as the margin grows. The line where it crosses 50% is the market’s implied spread. Totals work the same way with “over X points.” You can trade any rung, not just the one closest to even.

Converting to American odds

For a favorite priced at p, American odds are −100 × p ÷ (1 − p); for an underdog, +100 × (1 − p) ÷ p. So 72¢ is about −257 and 28¢ is about +257. These are fair odds before fees; a sportsbook’s line also includes its margin.

Methodology

The winner is the venue’s settlement as DeFi Rate’s market data reports it, never read from a price. Where the spread and total ladders settled comes from the same results. Full methodology →
