Lions vs. Panthers prediction market preview

The Lions are coming off a 31-24 win over the Jets. The Panthers are licking their wounds after a disappointing 21-18 loss to the Browns.

Carolina limps into SNF with key injuries at several positions. Top CB Jaycee Horn (torn quad) is expected to be out 6-12 weeks. Fellow CB Mike Jackson (groin) left the game against Cleveland and is questionable. Guard Damien Lewis, who anchors Carolina’s O-Line, is doubtful with an elbow injury. LB Devin Lloyd, WR Jalen Coker, and safety Nick Scott are all questionable.

The timing isn’t ideal for Carolina to be hosting its first primetime game of the season. The Panthers need to find a way to slow down Detroit RB Jahmyr Gibbs, who amassed 164 scrimmage yards and three TDs against the Jets last week.

Gibbs became the first player to record 300 rushing yards, 150 receiving yards, four rushing touchdowns, and two TD catches in his first three games.

QB Jared Goff was his usual consistent self with 269 passing yards and two TDs against the Jets. When the Lions establish the run game with Gibbs, it opens up the passing game and target share for WR1 Amon-Ra St. Brown. He leads the team in catches (23), receiving yards (228), and TD catches (5).

Detroit’s defense pales in comparison to its high-octane offense. The Lions rank 31st in total defense, allowing 416.7 yards per game. Only Dallas has allowed more. Detroit has also yielded the most touchdowns (13) in the young season.

Carolina QB Bryce Young has performed better this season, but he still struggles with inconsistency. If he can limit mistakes, Carolina has potential to make hay with RB Chuba Hubbard on the ground and Tetairoa McMillan through the air.
