Weekly market recap

• Knicks advance: New York advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals with a four-game sweep over the Philadelphia 76ers. They now await the winner of the Pistons vs. Cavaliers. The Knicks are trading for 13% in Kalshi’s Pro Basketball Champion market, behind the Thunder (62%) and Spurs (18%).
• Round two matchups set: The first round concluded on Sunday with a pair of Game 7s: Pistons over Magic and Cavaliers over Raptors. In the West, it’s Thunder vs. Lakers and Timberwolves vs. Spurs. It’s Detroit vs. Cleveland and Knicks vs 76ers in the East. The Thunder remain favored at prediction markets to win it all.
• Thunder hold commanding lead: Oklahoma City remains the overwhelming favorite to win the NBA championship at Prediction market platforms. They’re up 2-0 on the Suns in their first-round series. The Spurs and Celtics continue to battle for second place on the board.
• First round begins. The first round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs tipped off on Saturday, April 18. The Thunder continue to hold a commanding lead as the outright favorite to win it all, trading for 48%. The Spurs and Celtics are battling for second at 14%.  
• Play-in East: 76ers and Magic punch their tickets. The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Orlando Magic to claim the East’s No. 7 seed. Orlando then defeated Charlotte to claim the No. 8 seed and a first-round matchup against top-seeded Detroit.
• Play-in West: Trail Blazers survive, Suns claim eighth. Portland defeated Phoenix to claim the West’s No. 7 seed. Phoenix then defeated Golden State to claim the No. 8 seed, with the Warriors and Clippers both eliminated.
• Regular season closes, OKC and Spurs lead the board. The 2025-26 NBA regular season ended April 12 with Oklahoma City finishing 64-18, the best record in the league. At the close of the regular season, the Thunder sat as the clear championship favorite at 44% on Kalshi.

Who is favored to win the 2026 NBA Finals?

The defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder are the clear market leader. San Antonio is viewed as the biggest threat to the Thunder’s quest for a repeat. The Knicks have emerged as the favorite to win the Eastern Conference following the elimination of the Celtics, who fell in a first-round Game 7 to the 76ers.

Oklahoma City Thunder odds to win the NBA Finals

The defending champion finished the regular season at 64-18 with the league’s best offense and one of its best defenses. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 31.1 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.3 rebounds and is the near-certain 2026 regular-season MVP.

No team has repeated since Golden State in 2017-18. The market is pricing OKC at over even money, a clear signal that the Thunder are a legitimate threat to make it happen. Oklahoma City swept the Suns in round one and now faces the Lakers in the second round.

San Antonio Spurs NBA championship odds

The season’s biggest market mover, the Spurs, opened at roughly 6% implied probability. The team that hadn’t made the postseason since 2019 and was widely viewed as still developing around Victor Wembanyama. 

Playoff teams with young rosters can underperform their regular-season implied probability. This roster reached the midseason NBA Cup final and showed they can handle pressure moments. San Antonio defeated the Trail Blazers in five games in round one and now takes on the Timberwolves.

New York Knicks NBA Finals odds

The Knicks entered the postseason as the #3 seed in the Eastern Conference following a 53-29 regular season. New York is now the favorite to win the Eastern Conference, trading for 61% in that market at Polymarket and 60% on Kalshi.

New York advanced over the Hawks in six games in round one and swept the 76ers in the second round. They now get some time off ahead of the Eastern Conference Finals and are awaiting the winner of the Pistons vs. Cavaliers series.

Detroit Pistons NBA championship odds

The Pistons were the East’s top seed heading into the playoffs, but found themselves with all they could handle versus the Magic in round one. The series went to a decisive seventh game, with Detroit advancing with a 116-94 home win behind 32 points from Cade Cunningham.

Next up in round two is the Cavaliers, who also needed seven games in the first round to advance over the Raptors. The current series winner odds at Kalshi lean toward the Pistons at 71%, with Cleveland trading at 30%.

Eastern Conference odds

The Knicks are now the favorite to win the Eastern Conference at the leading prediction market platforms, trading for 61% at Polymarket and 60% on Kalshi. The Celtics held a commanding lead in conference pricing heading into the postseason, but were upset by the 76ers in round one.

The Pistons (32%) are second in current probabilities, with the Cavaliers (10%) in third. Those two squads are squaring off in the second round, with the winner advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals to face the Knicks.

Western Conference odds

Oklahoma City leads the Western Conference championship market at 73% on Kalshi and Polymarket. San Antonio is second at 24-25%. As traders see it, those two teams are likely to be squaring off in the Western Conference Finals.

The Timberwolves (4%) and Lakers (<1%) are well off the pace in pricing. If either was able to score a surprising series upset to advance to the Western Conference Finals, the price board would adjust dramatically.

NBA Finals MVP odds

In current prediction market pricing, the NBA Finals MVP market reflects how traders view the landscape of teams to win it all. Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is trading for 59% at Kalshi to lead the way, followed by San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama at 17%.  

In the lead for third place is New York’s Jalen Brunson at 11%, followed by Detroit’s Cade Cunningham at 4%. The four teams are also the top-priced squads in NBA Finals odds. No other player is trading for over 3%, but the market and probabilities will continue to evolve as the postseason shakes out.

Kalshi, Polymarket, and other leading prediction market platforms offer a range of NBA playoff markets that are active right now and reprice with every game played. • Conference champion markets. Eastern and Western Conference champion contracts. These are distinct from the outright championship market and offer a way to bet on a team reaching the Finals without needing them to win it.
• Series winner markets. Individual first-round series contracts are available. Each contract is a binary on who wins a specific best-of-seven series. These contracts reprice in real time as games are played, and they can move dramatically after a single game.
• Finals MVP. Make the call on which player will win the award once the NBA Finals come to a close. Pricing will continue to evolve throughout the postseason and as the candidate pool narrows.
• Game-level markets. You can trade on game winners, spreads, totals, and various game-related props, like the first team to score 10 points. These are high-velocity contracts that open and close within a 24-48 hour window around each game.
• Player prop markets. You can trade on key player stat categories, like points, rebounds, and assists. Markets for marquee players can attract significant volume, while pricing for role players can be more sporadic. 

NBA postseason: structure and key dates

The NBA playoffs use a 16-team bracket: eight teams per conference, seeded 1 through 8, with all series best-of-seven. Higher seeds host Games 1, 2, 5, and 7. Teams that finish in the top six of their conference qualify directly. Teams finishing seventh through tenth compete in the Play-In Tournament for the final two spots per conference.

There are four rounds: first round (16 teams), conference semifinals (8 teams), conference finals (4 teams), and the NBA Finals (2 teams). A team must win 16 games across four rounds to be crowned champion. Here are the key dates for the 2026 NBA Finals.

NBA Finals history and trends

Here’s a look back at the results for the last decade of NBA Finals.

The Boston Celtics lead the way with the most NBA championships all time at 18, followed by the Los Angeles Lakers with 17. The Golden State Warriors are third with seven, followed by the Chicago Bulls (6) and San Antonio Spurs (5). Here are some key trends to consider: 

• Back-to-back titles are becoming rare. No team has repeated since Golden State in 2017-18, and eight different franchises won the championship in the eight seasons between that Warriors run and OKC’s 2025 title. 
• No. 1 seeds win roughly one-in-four. The No. 1 overall seed has won the championship in four of the last ten seasons (OKC in 2025, Lakers in 2020, Warriors in 2018 and 2017).
• First-time champions are becoming common. Five of the last ten champions won their franchise’s first title or a long-awaited one. Among the 16 remaining teams, several are in the hunt for their first or a long-awaited return to glory. 

How NBA prediction markets work

A prediction market contract on the NBA Finals is a binary position on a single outcome: will a specific team win the 2026 NBA Finals? Each contract is priced in cents, and that price is the market’s implied probability. A contract at $0.48 means traders collectively assign a 48% chance to that team winning. 

If the outcome resolves Yes, each contract pays out $1. If No, it pays out $0. Contracts can be bought or sold at any time before the market closes. A trader who bought OKC at $0.30 earlier in the season and watches the price reach $0.48 can sell and lock in a return without needing to know the outcome.

Unlike a sportsbook, there is no house margin embedded in the price. Sportsbook odds build in a vig that ensures the house profits regardless of the outcome. NBA Finals resolution criteria

Knowing exactly when and how your contracts settle matters as much as the price you paid. Here is the resolution language sourced directly from both platforms.

• Kalshi: If [team] win the 2026 Pro Basketball Finals, then the market resolves to Yes. Outcome verified from NBA. Contracts are mutually exclusive — only one team resolves Yes. The market closes after the title holder is declared. If no resolution occurs, the market expires June 29, 2028 at 10:00 a.m. EDT.
• Polymarket: This market will resolve to Yes if [team] win the 2026 NBA Finals. Otherwise, this market will resolve to No. This market will resolve to No if it becomes impossible for this team to win the 2026 NBA Finals based off the rules of the NBA. The resolution source for this market will be information from the NBA. Projected resolution date: on or around July 1, 2026.

Contracts on eliminated teams resolve to “No” at the point elimination is confirmed. When a team loses its series, its contracts close. The real-time trading aspect of prediction markets provides flexibility. Sellers can exit and cut losses before resolution, provided there is liquidity to support that sale.
