What’s at stake for Saturday’s World Cup matches?

Saturday’s six World Cup matches will settle the final Group J, Group K, and Group L standings. Besides Colombia vs. Portugal, Saturday’s schedule includes:

  • Group L: Panama vs. England, 5 p.m. ET, FS1, MetLife Stadium
  • Group L: Croatia vs. Ghana, 5 p.m. ET, FS1, Lincoln Financial Field
  • Group K: Congo DR vs. Uzbekistan, 7:30 p.m. ET, FS1, Mercedes-Benz Stadium
  • Group J: Algeria vs. Austria, 10 p.m. ET, FS1, GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium
  • Group J: Jordan vs. Argentina, 10 p.m. ET, FOX, AT&T Stadium

England and Ghana enter tonight’s Group L games already knowing they’ll be playing again next week, while Croatia is still fighting for a spot. Harry Kane and England are in the driver’s seat to finish first by virtue of having a +2 goal differential compared to Ghana’s +1. Polymarket is showing England as a heavy -567 favorite, or 85% implied probability, over a Panama team that is eliminated.

There is an outside chance Ghana leaps over England for first if the Brits make a poor showing against Panama. Croatia needs a win or a draw to give them their best chance of qualifying, while a loss could be extremely costly.

Columbia is leading Group K with a 2-0 record and six points, while Portugal is 1-1 with four points. The Europeans could overtake the top spot with a win tonight. Polymarket has Columbia listed as a +257 underdog, or a 28% implied probability.

There is still an outside chance the Congo DR versus Uzbekistan winner could claim one of the third-place spots based on the match result, but the road is a lot tougher for the Uzbeks due to their -7 goal differential.

Those hoping to see Lionel Messi record another hat trick against Jordan, in a game that doesn’t matter for either team, are likely going to be disappointed as he is starting on the bench

Austria and Algeria are still alive for the Round of 32. Austria can advance if the game result is a win or a draw, while Algeria needs a win tonight to overtake second place in Group J. Even though both teams enter the game with identical 1-0-1 records, Austria owns the goal differential advantage. Polymarket was showing a tie as the most likely outcome with a 46% implied probability (+117).

In a matter of hours, the results from these six games will put the finishing touches on the round-of-32 bracket. There are still 10 spots that have to be decided, including five out of the eight third-place finishers.

Why trade the World Cup on Polymarket

Polymarket users have what seems like endless possibilities to test how easy trading in and out of World Cup match positions is. With so much on the line Saturday night, there could be multiple options to explore for live trading. For example, Ghana could jump out to an early first-half lead and see its probabilities to win rise, but if Croatia makes second-half adjustments, customers can easily exit, adjust positions, or even enter different markets.

No matter which Saturday World Cup markets you decide to trade, new users who enter the Polymarket promo code RATE when signing up for an account will receive a $50 trading bonus with an initial deposit of $20 or more.

NOTE: It’s important to remember that prediction markets involve risk, and prices may quickly change before and during live World Cup games. Users should trade only with money they can afford to lose. It’s a good idea to review the rules for each market before buying shares, and avoid chasing losses.
