By the numbers
The figures to quote: the last month and week against the ones before, where the money goes, and who’s growing. Each is like for like: a venue counts only where our data covers both periods.
Change from August, like for like: DraftKings Predictions, Gemini, Kalshi, Polymarket, Polymarket US, ProphetX, Rothera and Underdog Exchange, the venues our data covers for both whole months. The total includes Novig, whose figures here start partway through August.
Monday to Sunday, UTC, the last whole week; the change is on the week before.
$12.9B of the dollars paid on single markets went on sports; next, crypto (27%) and finance (2%). Parlays, mostly sports too, aren’t counted.
Its last 30 days against the 30 before (Aug 10-Sep 8, 2026): the biggest rise of any venue with a whole 30 days before.
All venues together, contracts at $1, UTC days. Football weekends lift Saturday and Sunday. The busiest day of the last 60 was Sunday, Oct 4, 2026: $5.3B.

How we measure prediction market volume
What volume tells you
Volume on this page counts contracts traded at their $1 face value: a contract that pays $1 if it’s right adds $1, whatever it cost. That’s the measure the exchanges headline themselves, so our figures line up with what Kalshi reports. Dollars paid is what traders actually spent, each contract at its price: a 20¢ contract adds $1 to volume and 20¢ to dollars paid. The venue table shows both, and “By the numbers” gives the average price paid per contract.
High volume usually means tighter prices and more contracts available at the quoted price, but it isn’t the same as depth: a market can trade heavily in a burst and still have a thin order book. Open interest, the value of contracts still held, says how much money is waiting on outcomes rather than how much changed hands.
What’s driving volume
Prediction markets traded $90.0B in contracts over the last 30 days. Kalshi handled 76% of it, and its volume moved +59% against the 30 days before.
Sports carry most of the volume, and football weekends show in the average day by weekday above. Short-dated crypto markets add a lot of contracts too: Kalshi’s 15-minute markets settle 96 times a day, so the same money trades again and again. Parlays (combos) are counted in volume but kept out of the category ranking, because each leg sells for a few cents and, at $1 a contract, they’d top every category.
On October 3, 2026 the page added three CFTC-regulated exchanges: ProphetX, Rothera and Underdog Exchange. Our data on each starts later than the exchange itself, so its arrival isn’t growth: the venue pages say where each one’s figures begin.
Using these figures
- Say which measure you quote. “$X in contracts” compares with the exchanges’ own announcements; “$X in dollars paid” is money actually spent. They can differ several times over.
- Days are UTC. The latest day on the chart is partial until it ends, and ProphetX, Rothera, Underdog Exchange and Novig publish each day’s trades a day or two later, so their latest days fill in after the others’.
- Cite a snapshot. Every chart and table has a Cite button that copies the figure with its source and a permanent link to the data as it stood, plus CSV downloads.
- Polymarket is two venues. Polymarket US is a CFTC-regulated exchange; Polymarket’s international exchange isn’t open to US traders. We count them separately.
For custom cuts of this data, use the data request form.
Methodology
Volume counts contracts traded at their $1 face value, the venues’ own headline measure, from DeFi Rate’s market data; the dollars actually paid for them are shown beside it where we have them. The 30-day window is Sep 9-Oct 8, 2026; changes compare with Aug 10-Sep 8, 2026. Polymarket’s international exchange and Polymarket US are counted separately.
